Of The Moment

Jean-Paul Gaultier

Chanel

Yohji Yamamoto

Chloé

Comme des Garçons

Karl Lagerfeld

Gaultier, Yamamoto, Kawakubo. Almost two decades later and their work is instantly recognizable. More importantly perhaps is that you would simply have to change the styling a touch and the garments could quite easily show alongside each designer's current work. Compare that to the other three lines (all designed by Lagerfeld), which because of their desire to be so very much of the moment, now feel rather dated. There is an important lesson there I think.

  1. LOVE this. And what you wrote is so true, the aesthetic is still very much the same.

  5. I think you're completely right. After reading your comment, I looked at the images again and thought that the Lagerfeld designs looked decidely 90s. Well, low and behold, I realise that the first caption dates the magazine shoot to 1993...
