Madonna for LV

For their latest ad campaign Louis Vuitton have decided to use the Queen, no not that one on the pennies and stamps - but rather Madonna. The shoot features six Parisian inspired photographs by Steven Meisel. Many may recognise Meisel from his frequent work in US and Italian Vogue, as well as W magazine. In my opinion he was a wonderful choice, given his history photographing Madonna, one of his personal friends, back in the early '90s, for the coffee table book entitled 'Sex'. As far as the ad campaign goes, I enjoy the setting and colours, but does anyone feel it is a tad too busy? Either way it is definitely growing on me.

What are your thoughts on the campaign?

  4. She looks great, esp. in that second yoga-ish pose . . . but I wouldn't have chosen her for this campaign; I don't believe that she would wear those shoes IRL!

  5. its more of sex + fashion now, not quality & history then. but it does help big brands boost their sales and its unlikely an lv ad :)

reminds me of moulin rouge in some way!

  14. I'm usually not into this type of stuff, but I really love it.... I can definitely see it growing on me. The one with her leg up is hot! She has the best legs!

  15. I love these shots too. The shoes are amazing. I love the floor tiles. I like how she is so much older than me & she can hold her legs up like this & I can't even do it!!!!

  17. LV ads are love, and Madonna is a perfect pick. I prefer the second shot because the chairs aren't as obstructive... which you're right, make it look busy. The diner/cafe setting with the tone is just fantastic.

  18. I see what you mean - it seems with shoots like these, it can easily turn into a game of "let's see how many accessories, RTW, bags and shoes we can fit into one shot" because god forbid one of the peices they shoot doesn't end up in stores.

These look like they may have fallen into that trap.

  25. They seem busy to me as well. And just a bit odd...but I'm not a Madge fan.

  28. I love how you wrote that Sex was a 'coffee table book'...trust my in my household it was anything but coffee table worthy. After passing around the hat (at my all boys high school) and promising everyone would get a gander, I bought 'the most controversial book of all time'. Only then to have Mother Imelda sniff it out and turn it into ashes.

Madge should have learned from the Versace campaign (where her hair looked brittle and wig like) don't do fashion...leave it to the pro's.
