High Heeled Art

When it comes to the world of fashion meeting art, one name always comes to mind, that of Mark Schwartz.

New York based Schwartz started primarily as a shoe designer, however he always had an inherent artisitic flair. These ambitions were cultivated by two persons who could not have been more appropriate, Andy Warhol and Roger Vivier. Whilst working under the legendary shoe designer, Vivier, Schwartz was encouraged by Warhol to explore the more artistic methods of displaying his realisations. Inspired personally by Warhol as well as a variety of other artists, Schwartz explored the illustrative nature of footwear design further.

Since, Schwartz has produced a vast number of these characteristically whimsical and colourful paintings, yet at the same time also designing for a wide array from Balenciaga to Hermes. His artwork clearly shows his practical expertise in shoe design, whilst also allowing him to present his more creative ideas and designs. For me personally, his work most definitely embodies the concept of footwear as artwork.

  5. Those are amazing. I'm developing a big thing for fashion illustration and I've got to say, I think these sketches may just have an edge over the sketches I've seen by Mr Blahnik
